The Lodge of Four Seasons has recently decided to outsouce it's entire Houskeeping, Laundry, and Kitchen Stewarding Departments (over 100 employees / local residents / local taxpayers / local voters). The company they have brought in The Service Companies (Southern Service Company or S.S.C.) has a national reputation of hiring illegal aliens and treating their American employees like dirt!
At 1st it did not seem so bad, effective Nov 1st, we would no longer work for the Lodge (a company many of us called home and were loyal to for many years), and that if we wished to remain employed in our present position, we would have to re-apply with the new company. They even promised that we would not lose any money. They told us that we would lose all seniority, lose all benifits, and had to start over (where are we suppost to go?) Then the company offered open enrollment on the health benifits. And the Lodge even decided to pay us out our saved up vacation hours. So it did not seem so bad for a moment. Then the reality kicked in. These people are treating the employees that stayed like garbage! They aRE PURPOSELY Trying to make us quit so they can bring in their illegals to work at a lower wage!

Unless you like walking five miles, or have the magic ability to make a parking space materialize out of nowhere, I'd recommend avoiding Versailles all together, during the Apple Festival (Oct. 3 this year.) I live in the area, drove to D Highway and 52, and after parking (two miles from town center) was told by a volunteer fireman that I could not park there. It's a giant boondoggle, not worth your effort. Mind you, I personally would not mind walking a few miles, but the fireman gave me no option except to leave, which I did. I won't be coming back in years to come. Thoughts from those who attended, or took my tack and left after seeing the mess.

Welcome to our new forum feature online, "Lake Chatter."
Lake Chatter provides an interactive opportunity for readers to discuss whatever issues they want. Whether it's a story from Lake News Online, discussions from the community, or something as simple as finding out what's going on this weekend, Lake Chatter is the place to talk about it.
Users will sign up with a username and password. Once you're registered, you're ready to post. And unlike story comments on the old web site, you can create your own topics within the forum.
We just have a few rules we'd like you to follow, much like on story comments:
1. Keep it clean – We have a variety of readers and users online, and we want them all to feel comfortable using the forums. Included in this is no cursing. Our readers have great vocabularies, you can think of better words to use.
2. No personal attacks – Lively discussion is great. Heated debate is welcomed. But we don't want you making fun or saying hurtful things about other users or citizens in the news. The line here is sometimes hard to see, so be careful not to get too close.
Our moderator will be keeping an eye on all the posts at Lake Chatter, so any posts that violate the rules above will be removed. We think you can all get involved without breaking those rules though, it's not too much to ask.
We'll also be here to help with any questions you have. So get to it – we know you have a lot on your mind.

Congressman Ike Skelton drew an impromptu protest Aug. 10 in Linn Creek over health care reform.
Protesters spent more than an hour in the rain waiting for him after Skelton arrived to APAC late.
Despite the damp conditions, the group remained light-hearted, conversing about health care, the government and upcoming rallies.
10 Number of protesters
14 Number of cars that passed by between 4:20-5:20 p.m.
110 Minutes some protesters spent waiting to glimpse the Congressman

From www.lakenewsonline.com:
Weeks of controversy and fingerpointing over the Missouri Department of Natural Resources’ reluctance to release water quality test results for Lake of the Ozarks has resulted in a change of policy and attitude at the resource agency.
On Thursday, DNR Director Mark Templeton released the following statement on the release of results from a long-term study of water quality at the Lake of the Ozarks.
In the statement, Templeton admitted the state should have released the results sooner. In the future, he said, the results will be available as soon as the tests have been completed.
DNR drew fire after not disclosing results from the May testing.

Magruder Limestone Co. Inc, based out of Troy, Mo., is looking to quarry a 200-acre site near Woodriver Road in Miller County. The parcel of land is also near the both cities joint water and sewer treatment plant. Each side has been fighting for almost two years.
Magruder gained a small victory when DNR granted them the permit. However, a Miller County judge blocked it after after a lengthy courtroom battle. The judge noted several things including Magruder's original application turned into DNR was incomplete.
City officials are concerned about the impact of blasting on the structural integrity of the sewer lines.

Before I get started, yes, we are all thankful for our jobs that we have, however, does that mean we should roll-over and let the Commissioners take from us what has been rightfully ours for many, many years? I'm not just talking about us current employees of 5 years or less, I'm talking about employees of this fine county that have had these holidays for eeeeons!!! The Presiding Commissioner just can't stand it unless she has all of us under her greedy little thumb!! The other two are afraid of her, so just follow along like whipped pups. Okay...I'm done venting for a bit. Did you know that they took off the holiday list, VETERANS DAY!!! OMG!!! What a slap in our fine Veterans faces as well as all our Americans. How dare they!! AND.....they took away Martin Luther King Jr. too!!!! Are these people insane or what??? The PC was heard on the radio this morning that in the past, the employees didn't get their work don on those days off. Has she lost her marbles or what??? Of course we get the work done. It may take a day to catch up, but who is she kidding?? She is trying to answer for all the elected officials!!! I for one am furious as to the communist ways of this present commission. There is absolutely NO MONEY being saved by taking away our holidays. In fact, it will COST the county to run the entire courthouse and R&B for that day....electricricity, water, fuel for county R&B vehicles. I"m soooo glad that election year is coming fast, because this county needs to clean the slate and start over again with CARING, COMPASSIONATE commissioners. Unless you are employed by the county, it may be a bit confusing, but trust me, it's all true. And for those of you that think we are greedy employees, think again. We have families, pay bills and look forward to ALL the perks promised to us when we signed the dotted lines. Taking money out of the employees pockets is not the way to do it, especially when there is a reserve of 3.9 million. OK, I'm done. Thank you for stopping by and reading this.

Despite a cease and desist order from Camden County, the owner of an entertainment venue at the 7-mile marker is not only open for business, he’s challenging the legality of planning and zoning.
Gary Prewitt, owner of Shady Gators and Lazy Gators, filed a lawsuit against Camden County after being ordered to shut down for being in violation of the planning and zoning rules.
Prewitt is asking for $2.7 million in damages from the county.
According to the county, Prewitt is doing business under a catering license on a piece of property that is zoned for residential use not commercial. Prewitt has built a pool, tiki bar, volleyball courts and cabanas where patrons can relax and enjoy the water and view.

It will be at least three weeks before a Camden County judge can schedule trial proceedings in the case filed against the city of Osage Beach by Four Seasons Marina Rentals, Inc.
The case involves the city’s approval of a $3.5 million Tax Increment Financing District for the John Q. Hammons development.
The case is currently before Camden County Circuit Court Judge Stan Moore. That could change as it makes it way through the judicial system.

The city is moving to a new location and at the same time consolidating its city hall and police department. The building is newer, nicer and bigger. But, at a time when the city is struggling with lawsuit after lawsuit and major water and sewer system repairs, can the city afford to make such a move?

Enforcement is not going to go away anytime soon here at the Lake. In an environment where it is far too easy to down a couple of drinks and slip behind the wheel, officials say checkpoints are one of the best tools to deter drunken driving.
However, they are costly.
And while some say they work. Others say they don't and only encourage drunken drivers to find other ways around the law. Plus, they point out the other drivers on the road that aren't impaired that are stopped.
So, what do you think?

I know there are a number of Kansas City Chiefs Fans out there. I enjoy talking Chiefs Football when the team is winning and when they are loosing. You have to support your team. They all come, and they all go.......then they come back again. The Chiefs will have their day again....I am excited about what I am seeing. New Ownership, a New Coach (One that was in the SuperBowl last year.), new management (One that has also been in many SuperBowls)......what is not to like. We go to all of the games at Arrowhead and we usually have some extra tickets available. If you need tickets, feel free to call me at 573-480-6995

Camden County will be closing Dority Road (DD-10) on Wednesday August 5, 2009 for six weeks to rebuild a low water crossing over Rainey Creek. There will be road closed signs posted at the construction area. Local traffic will be allowed access to either side of the construction area but not through the site. Southbound motorists will be directed to take the detour route right on Knobby Road to left on Nutt hill Road then to Dority Road. Northbound motorists will go left on Nutt Hill Road to Dority Road.
This work is a continuing effort to improve the infrastructure of Camden County. Your patience and support of this project is appreciated. Any questions may be directed to the Camden County Road & Bridge Department at 573-346-4471.
